Garnet Canyon Sunrise

During the third week of September, I backpacked up Garnet Canyon to a decent campsite at about 10,600' and made this image of the sun coming up across the valley.  Despite a brief rainshower about an hour later, the weather held for successful climbs of both South and Middle Tetons that morning. Icefloe Lake

The path through Garnet Canyon on the way to South and Middle Tetons at times seems like an endless ocean of boulders and jumbles of rock.  Once you reach the South-Middle Saddle, though, the landscape opens up to the west, where you can see Idaho, Alaska Basin, and Icefloe Lake. South Teton Summit

Eleven years ago, my good friend Jaxon took me up to the summit of Middle Teton, but before I could even get my camera from my pack, thick clouds rolled over us, obscuring everything farther than five feet in front of us.  Ever since then, I've wanted to get back.  During the third week of September, I managed to do just that, but before getting to the top of Middle, I decided to go up South Teton first.  In this view, Middle Teton sits directly in front of my feet while Grand Teton seems to look over Middle's shoulder. Snowdrift Lake and The Wall

I got this view of Snowdrift Lake and The Wall by looking south-southwest from the summit of South Teton.  The Wall is the prominent, long wall to the right of the lake.  The near peak to the left of the lake is Mount Wister (11,490'), and Buck Mountain looms behind it at 11,938'. Grand Teton from Middle Teton

In a way, this view was eleven years in the making.  My good friend Jaxon took me up to the summit of Middle Teton in 2003, but before I could even get my camera from my pack, thick clouds rolled over us, obscuring everything farther than five feet in front of us.  Ever since then, I've wanted to get back.  During the third week of September, I managed to do just that.
