Bisti Wilderness, Twilight
Bisti/De-Na-Zin Wilderness, New Mexico, 2014
"Cracked eggs" and "egg farm" are commonly used to describe this collection of rocks in the Bisti Wilderness. To me, this particular rock, though, more closely resembles some huge fossilized trilobite or stromatolite. The willing wanderer can find these formations just by walking along the valley floor, but the odds of stumbling upon them are terrible, especially since the wilderness looks almost exactly the same in every direction. The odds of readily finding your way out after dark are much, much worse; a G.P.S. receiver is not only handy but nearly essential. Photo © copyright by Greg Owens.
