Bisti's Cracked Eggs

Bisti/De-Na-Zin Wilderness, New Mexico, 2014

"Cracked eggs" and "egg farm" are commonly used to describe this collection of rocks in the Bisti Wilderness.  To me, this rock in particular most strongly resembles the remnants of an eggshell broken by some emerging prehistoric creature.  The willing wanderer can find these formations just by walking along the valley floor, but the odds of stumbling upon them are terrible, especially since the wilderness looks almost exactly the same in every direction.  The odds of readily finding your way out after dark are much, much worse; a G.P.S. receiver is not only handy but nearly essential.
