Chasm View, Sunset
Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, Colorado, 2014
Near Chasm View, seen here from the North Rim, the canyon narrows to its minimum width of 1100 feet from rim to rim but only 40 feet at the river. When I made this image, the river was roaring through this narrow chasm at over 6100 cubic feet per second. By contrast, on the same day at the same time, the Colorado River was running at 13,100 cfs through the narrowest point of Grand Canyon, a width of 1800 feet at Marble Canyon.
