Ediza Lake, Sunrise
Ansel Adams Wilderness, California, 2009
The Ansel Adams Wilderness, near Mammoth Lakes, was originally named Minarets Wilderness and set aside as protected land with the passage of the Wilderness Act of 1964. Soon after his death, the area was renamed for the famed landscape photographer and environmentalist. I made this photograph after the first of two nights at Ediza Lake on a five-day trip in the area. That particular night was the only one of the four in which we were not visited by black bears seeking to sample our backcountry fare. Photo © copyright by Greg Owens.
