Approaching the Summit of Handies
Gunnison National Forest, Colorado, 2014
Handies Peak (14,048') is one of Colorado's less forbidding 14ers; no technical experience or even scrambling is required to gain its summit. Getting to the top still requires a gain of at least 2500' over less than three miles beginning at 11,500', but the summit view of the San Juans is outstanding. In this photo, Crystal is just a few steps away from the top of her first 14er. Photo © copyright by Greg Owens.
