Milky Way over Mesa Arch

Canyonlands National Park, Utah, 2013

As arches go, Mesa Arch isn't all that impressive but for the fact that it sits on the edge of a cliff that drops 500 feet.  There's a good reason it's one of the most photographed landscapes in the western U.S., and if you're looking for solitude, don't go to Mesa Arch at sunrise.  You may find several dozen people and three times as many tripod legs crammed into just a few square feet.  At midnight, though, when I made this photograph, I was the only one there.
