Not as Much Fun as Paddling

Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, Minnesota, 2014

This is the less fun part of exploring the Boundary Waters.  The lakes are connected by portage trails, and getting from one lake to another means toting all your gear along those portage trails.  This is the standard method of portaging a canoe, at least one light enough for a single person to carry.  Most of the rest of our gear was in huge dry bags that closely resemble climbers' haul bags minus the waist belt.
