Painted Wall, Winter
Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, Colorado, 2015
On the heels of a rare good snow in February 2015, I skied the South Rim Road of Black Canyon to the viewpoints for the Painted Wall to find low, dense clouds obscuring everything but the river. Thanks to a minor ski-binding malfunction, my return trip was delayed just long enough for the clouds to begin to lift, revealing the Painted Wall and a thin ribbon of direct sunlight on the river. Well worth the wait. Photo © copyright by Greg Owens.
