Partial Solar Eclipse, Shiprock
Shiprock, New Mexico, 2014
Just a couple weeks after the lunar eclipse, I photographed October's partial solar eclipse, which occurred about two hours before sunset. Because the sun was still relatively high in the sky, I needed something tall or on a hill or mountainside for a silhouetted foreground; a horn on the flanks of Shiprock worked well. I used a ten-top neutral density filter so I could safely view and photograph the sun directly. Photo © copyright by Greg Owens.
