Sandstone and Fog, Light and Dark
Colorado National Monument, Colorado, 2014
Fog creeps up the sandstone formations of the Colorado National Monument just after sunrise. After the very first light of the day failed to get through thick clouds in the east, I almost left but was intrigued by a little bit of fog rolling from the north into the bottom of this canyon. Over the next half hour, I watched as the clouds swirled around and finally engulfed, one by one, these formations that stand hundreds of feet tall. The fog and some wild light enabled me to get the kind of depth that I've wanted from this vantage point but had not been able to achieve. Easily one of the best mornings of the year!
