Star Trails over the Ancient Ones

Horseshoe Canyon, Canyonlands National Park, 2015

I wanted to make a unique image of The Great Gallery, no easy task since the gallery itself is the real art.  While waiting for the sun to set and the stars to emerge, I had lots of time to look at different angles, most of which were abstract to an absurd point because of the gallery's length and the height of the canyon wall.  My compass, though, told me that Polaris, the North Star, would be immediately behind the wall, allowing me to fill the space above the wall with the concentric rings of the stars' apparent motion around Polaris.  19 frames later, 18 for the star trails and one for the panel (illuminated with my headlamp), the result is exactly how I visualized it.
