Sunrise at the Black Canyon Narrows

Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, Colorado, 2014

Through The Narrows, the Gunnison River runs between canyon walls only 40 feet apart, and expert kayakers can run much of the river in good conditions.  The National Park Service points out that above a flow of 3000 cubic feet per second (cfs), "Kayaking should not be attempted even by experts, portages disappear, death is probable."  When I made this image, the flow was over 6100 cfs.  I didn't see any kayakers.
