The Grand Valley
McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area, Colorado, 2014
This photograph, made from the McInnis Canyons NCA, shows a great deal of the area in which I live. In the foreground is the Lower Black Ridge Road, open October 15-February 15 each year, and the juniper-pinyon forestland that covers much of the area south and west of the Grand Valley. The next layer forward shows a sizable portion of the Colorado National Monument, and past that is the Grand Valley itself. On the far side of the Grand Valley are the Little Book Cliffs, and directly behind those in this photo is Battlement Mesa. Grand Mesa is the large prominence on the right catching some direct sunlight as dark storm clouds move away to the south. Photo © copyright by Greg Owens.
