Wide View of Huxley and Sapphire
Sequoia-Kings Canyon Wilderness, Kings Canyon National Park, California, 2007
I made this photograph on a day hike during my first visit to the incomparable Evolution Basin with my great friend Greg Drummond in 2007. The clouds in this photo brought friends a little while later in the day. As we were ascending nearby Mount Spencer, Greg was ahead of me, and I was startled to look up at one point to see him coming straight down toward me at a fast pace. A second or two later, the shattering crash of thunder told me with all the subtlety of a hungry grizzly bear what Greg had seen directly over the summit. I don't think I've ever descended a mountain so quickly. Photo © copyright by Greg Owens.
